The driver duo of Oliver Bunn and Taylor Lane took to the track together again in the second round of the Platinum Endurance Championship, this time from the wonderful bowl of Interlagos in Brazil.
Qualification for the 4 hour race was incredibly tight, with our Acura GTP car finding itself in P9 just a few tenths off the top 3. Oliver started well, gaining positions in the early laps and starting to settle into the first stint. Before too long, though, the car suffered damage in the rear while slowing for an incident ahead that other cars were not as cautious for.
Oliver attempted to continue with rear bodywork damage, but unfortunately the car needed repair. Luckily this got our splash and dash out of the way, and cost around 30 seconds of race time overall. From there Oliver was able to finish out the first couple of hours, getting into the usual rhythm of ticking off the laps and avoiding the odd spinning car.
Around the halfway point, it was time for Taylor to get into the car. In another unfortunate incident, he was spun almost immediately by a car trying to unlap themselves. More fortunately, this damage was minimal enough to allow the team to continue.
The rest of the race was relatively uneventful, ticking off laps and capitalising on the misfortune or mistakes of others ahead. Today, though, the best that could have been achieved was P5 against the super strong Cadillacs who suited this track well. P5 was exactly what the team achieved in the end, and they can be happy with that result.
