Ryan Hamilton wins the WGTC 2021 Am Championship

League

2nd November 2021

After a hard-fought and incredibly tense season, Ryan Hamilton secured the Am honours in this years WGTC championship for NOMAD. This class was the closest throughout the year, with Paul Webster, Lee Berridge and Andy Archer all providing incredible performances. Going into the last 3 races that make up the last round at Monza, Paul had a 12 point lead over Ryan.

Ryan, who wasn't incredibly confident of his chances on the early evidence of Paul's pace in practise and qualifying, got off to a storming start in race one – until he ran out of fuel on the last lap. Incredibly disappointing, but the fact that his Lamborghini was comfortably in front until then gave some hope for the next couple of races.

Races 2 and 3 included reverse grids, and Ryan's job was to keep his head and try to stay ahead of Paul – and he executed that perfectly, staying calm in traffic with Pros and Pro-Ams being their usual hasty selves. It must be said that Paul more than his share of bad luck throughout the races, and no doubt he'll be wishing that things went differently, but on the day Ryan managed to stay out of trouble and take the title by 23 points.

In an awesome show of class from the Am competitors, both Paul and Andy pulled alongside Ryan on the cooldown lap of the final race, resulting in the picture at the top of this page provided by Adam Hedgecock.
