The first batch of 5 races in this season of WSL GT3 came to a close at Zolder, a little used but great fun track in Belgium.
This round was a sprint event, which meant a 25 minute race followed by a 50 minute race with a reverse grid. That meant that qualifying for race one was extra important, and it was Jason Dilworth who took the honours there.
The Pro field is currently packed with just Prestanda NOMAD and Twisted cars, and our cars also took P4, P5, P6 and P8 with Jon Williams, Håkon Eide Lindmo, Chris Chadderton and Taylor Lane respectively. Dean Timms lined up 5th in Pro-Am for race one.
The 25 minute sprint race kicked off soon after, with a dream start for Jason soon leading to a 5 second gap that could be managed for the rest of the race. Jon, initially up to 2nd off the start, didn't get so lucky and suffered contact early into the race that dropped him well down the order and finishing 8th in class. Håkon and Chris kept themselves mostly out of trouble in the first race to finish 5th and 6th respectively, while Taylor made the most positions in the team to finish 4th.
Meanwhile in Pro-Am Dean had also moved forward, finishing just off the podium in 4th.
With the first race done, it was quickly on with the 2nd race, with each class race 1 result reversed down to a maximum of P10 to set the race 2 grid. Except that Håkon ended up being put at the back of the Pro field for reasons unknown at the time of writing.
A good start from pole in race two for Jon didn't last too long with Harry Wills straight onto the back of him by the end of lap one, with a close fight lasting for a couple of laps until a mistake and penalty for Harry gave him some breathing space. Meanwhile Taylor had dropped to the back of the Pro back at the beginning, with the rest of the NOMAD field making their way up the leaderboards.
Within the first 10 minutes of the race there were NOMADs in the top three positions of Pro, but a hard charging Stuart Reynolds kept his early pace and made use of an undercut at the pitstops to leapfrog his way into the lead and pull away. From there it was up to Jason and Jon to keep hold of the rest of the positions on the podium, which they managed to do despite a hard fight from behind.
Elsewhere Chris had managed to secure a top 5 position, with Taylor 6th and Håkon 7th in Pro. Dean had continued his fight into an incredible last lap that took him from 5th to 3rd for the podium spot in Pro-Am.
Overall a solid night for the team as we head into the midway break in the season. You can check out all the standings on in the event details at the top of this page.
